Catherine Wagner was born on January 31, 1953 in San Francisco, California.went to school at the Instituto de Arte, in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Afterwards she continued her education in San Francisco earning her BA.
She is known both for her series concerned with architectural spaces and her series steeped in scientific imaging, Catherine Wagner has a detached but illuminating view of how we arrange fact and fantasy. She has always observed the built environment as a metaphor for how we develop our cultural identities.
One of her famous series was 1995, The Architecture of Reassurance: Designing the Disney Theme Parks. She used Special Effects Tank, Backstage Studio Tour, Disney-MGM Studios to give an unpopulated view at the edges of the artifice, focusing on the physical structures that create the park’s illusions. She examines the systems people develop, their love of order, ambition to shape the world, the value we place on knowledge, and the extents we go to express ourselves.
Her colors are very vibrant and she takes aerial view of scenes as well and very well framed photos of rooms and scenes that almost make you feel like you are in the space.
I really enjoy looking at these because they almost create a happy feeling when you look at them. You are brought into the world she is photographing and are allowed to take your personal tour of Disney Land up close. I can't really say I dislike any of her work I think she accomplishes what she sets out to photograph very well.
